Within two miles of leaving Island Cove Marina, we see the Sequoyah Nuclear Plant. This plant has 2 huge cooling towers on Chickamauga Lake. In fact, the river circles around the nuclear plant giving exceptional views of this Plant. An interesting fact about this plant is that it pumps 1 Million gallons per minute into the river and are only allowed to raise the water by 5 degrees at a time. Also releasing 1 million gallons causes some turbulence in the river for boaters to be aware of.

There are always gorgeous homes to look at while traveling on the river.

As we go another few miles along the river, we approach the Hiwassee River which is one of the largest tributaries that feeds the Tennessee River. The Hiwassee River begins almost 100 miles to the east in Northern Georgia and SW North Carolina. As we approach this river, the water gets very wide and peaceful and there is a 1,000 acre Wildlife Refuge System that is home to thousands of ducks, geese, swans, osprey, bald and golden eagles. We did see 2 bald eagles, but of course we didn't have our camera ready to take their picture.
It was a short but scenic trip for the day. Blue Water Marina and Campground is very small, but their people absolutely made our visit one of the best on the river. We get into our covered slip early enough to wash the boat and get her ready to settle in for an early evening. The day isn't complete without taking some sunset pictures.
