Chattanooga Thru Chickamauga Lock to Island Cove Marina for Two Nights

It's Thursday morning, August 23, and it was gorgeous and the sunrise on Eastern time zone is more do-able to wake up and take a few "good morning" pictures!!  Not a cloud in the sky and with the rains coming through yesterday, the humidity was low, breeze was about 10 MPH out of the North and shaping up to be a perfect travel day.
Beautiful Sunrise Coming Through Cloud Nine -- Welcome to Thursday

The view was just as spectacular leaving Chattanooga as it was when we arrived.  The huge bluffs were still visible as we left town.  One of the most amazing sights was the Chattanooga Golf and Country Club that bordered the river on the left side.  There were several golfers out there despite the fairly high winds that morning.

We only had 8 miles to go until we reach our next Lock/Dam, Chickamauga Dam.  We called the Lockmaster to make sure there were not any large barges coming through that may cause a big delay with us locking through.  He assured us there was no delay.  As we approach the lock, we had a really hard time finding the doors to the lock.  There is a huge rusty railroad bridge that runs parallel to the Lock, so even with binoculars, we had a hard time finding where we were supposed to go.  We finally found the doors and were ready to make our approach.  The Lockmaster lifted us 60 feet into Chickamauga Lake and we were back on our way in about 30 minutes.  Because this lock is so close to Chattanooga, it has more "pleasure boat" traffic going through this lock than any other Lock on the Tennessee River.

We only traveled about 18 miles that day because we wanted to visit a marina just north of Chattanooga called Island Cove Marina and Resort in Harrison, TN.  Because the Marina Name had the word "Island" in it, it enticed us to want to spend a day there exploring what it had to offer.  We were not disappointed.  Not only did they offer discounts for purchasing their gas and overnight slip rentals, they also had a great restaurant and a covered slip. We were "in love" for the next 2 days - haha.  This was a huge marina with probably 350 boat slips, a full service maintenance department, a Mexican Restaurant with "healthy" Pomegranate Margaritas (yum yum), a swimming pool, huge playground, cabins, an "Island" you can actually rent.....and we even found our Boat's "twin sister" also named Cloud Nine......how ironic is that...…

Our Boat's "Twin Sister".....this is NOT our boat, but is our boat's name-sake

I see a sign  to "Clean up after your Pet".  Everywhere I go I'm being asked to clean up after my Pet named Gene!!

Another Perfect Sunset bringing another Perfect Day on the Water to a Close

I love looking for the perfect sunset picture.....and as I was taking pictures of the one above, another local lady was also taking pictures.  She recently retired and also loved taking pictures and actually works part time for the Greeting Card Company, American Greetings.  We compared pictures -- hers were naturally much better, but we had a common hobby of taking pictures of beautiful sunsets and other things that make us smile.  I enjoyed talking with her.  Everywhere we go, we find interesting and fun people to talk to -- one of the best parts of our Adventure.

That's my silhouette on the left and my photo-taking friend on the right with her camera taking pictures.  Small world with the same goal in mind.....capturing the beauty of the day.

Tomorrow is time to venture to our next destination.....Blue Water Marina and Campground.

Love my Captain.....Love Cloud Nine....
